Sinhala music is a hybrid of the three great branches of music culture. It was result of the Buddhist influence in the nation, the Portugal colonization and the Indian culture during the commercial benefits of Bollywood cinema. Sri Lanka had its own music during the ancient times before all these three factors influenced it. However, when Buddhist arrived at Sri Lanka their religious influence on the music was strong. After Buddhist arrival, the Portuguese came to colonize the country when it introduced new techniques and new instruments. They brought with them the guitars and ukuleles. They started introducing the cantiga ballads. After them came the African people who brought with them the baila. Sri Lankan music was already diverse with people from diverse geography contributing to the single source of music. It became more divers with the influence of Buddhist and Portugal arrival.
